In the past, metal was the prevailing structural material used in aerospace-, automotive- and many other engineering industries. However, this circumstance has been subject to change during the past years. Today, metal is undoubtedly still the number one structural material used, however, the significance of CFRP materials is constantly increasing and so is the importance of a consistent and good documentation of the quality of such material - no matter what it is used for. As a consequence, the growing demand for high-quality materials leads to an increased need for quality documentation. The documentation of material quality is thus a crucial factor for the competitiveness of a company. For manual and automated testing and detailed documentation of product quality the industries need powerful, inexpensive, economic and appropriate testing systems.
The Fraunhofer Institute for Non-Destructive Testing (IZFP) has developed a multi-frequency eddy current system for surface and near-surface testing of eligible materials. The testing instrument is designed for testing numerous materials and for detailed documentation of the testing results. It is used for testing CFRP materials for fibre separation, fibre content, cracks and subsequently processing and preparing the testing results and data in a well-structured and accessible way. Our testing instruments consist of state-of-the-art modules that enable a convenient implementation and operation. We offer simple, inexpensive models for simple testing as well as complex systems for tackling complicated testing challenges. Additionally, we offer software modules for data evaluation and documentation which enables us to provide comprehensive analyses and data presentations.
